Mariner of the Seas to get $90 million makeover

Mariner of the Seas is scheduled to get new features including a water park, glow-in-the dark laser tag experience, escape room and a brand new virtual reality experience called Sky Pad.

The extensive $90 million makeover will give guests the chance to do more on Mariner of the Seas short 3 to 4 day cruises from the Miami to Nassau and CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination. “At Royal Caribbean, we believe in the constant pursuit of adventure, and that every weekend is an opportunity to experience something new, and live life to its fullest,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International.

Let’s breakdown all the new features coming to guests from June 2018…
Sky Pad

Sky Pad is a Royal first virtual reality bungee trampoline experience. Guest will strap on their virtual reality headset which will transport them to another planet where they can jump and bounce across a lunar landscape or compete in intergalactic games. The experience is for guests of all ages and for those that prefer not to leave “actual reality” the VR headset is entirely optional.

Sky Pad is housed in a unique globe structure at the aft of the ship which means those that choose not to enter a virtual world can enjoy views of the ocean as they leap for the sky.

Water Park

Mariner of the Seas will be the first Voyager class ship to receive a water park, featuring  “The Perfect Storm”, a duo of twisting racing water slides called “The Cyclone” and “Typhoon”. Guests will jump on for a thrilling race to the bottom to see who splashes down first.

Laser tag

After first appearing on the soon to be launched Symphony of the Seas, the glow-in-the-dark laser tag experience will be added to the ice skating venue, Studio B; we assume the ice won’t be part of the experience! Friends and family can team up to play “Battle for Planet Z”, a fast paced intergalactic shoot ’em up.

Break Out ROom

“The Observatorium” will be a new escape room experience where guests have to put their minds to the test by working together to find and solve hidden clues in a series of high-tech riddles to unravel the mystery and escape. The clock is ticking and with only 60 minutes of play the excitement grows with each tick of the clock.

New bars & Nightlife

Mariner of the Seas will receive another Symphony of the Seas first with the addition of Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade. Perfect for sports fans wanting to catch a live game or those that like a casual lively venue. Playmakers will offer cold beers and a selection of bar snacks including wings, popcorn shrimp and sliders.

The Bamboo Room is a all-new Polynesian-themed watering hole and exclusive to Mariner. Offering tiki-themed decor, the retro lounge will provide guests with their favourite speciality handcrafted cocktails in a trendy uniquely styled space.

Dining Favourites

Jamie’s Italian will be added to the ships restaurant choices, featuring Jamie Oliver’s signature rustic Italian experience using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Guest’s that like a bit of theatre with their dining will be pleased to know Izumi Hibachi & Sushi will offer the traditional Teppanyaki experience with exotic made to order hot or cold dishes served á la carte.
